ABSTRACT

This study has presented 26 non-palpable testes in 23 children. Diagnostic laparoscopy results have shown that eight cases had absent testes, four cases had atrophic testes, eight cases had truly intraabdominal testes and six cases had intracanalicular or pepping testes. One stage laparoscopic orchiopexy was attempted in 14 cases. In 12 cases of them [six cases intracanalicular and six cases intraabdominal], no division of the spermatic vessels was done. In the other two cases, Fowler-Stephens procedure was done. Laparoscopic orchiectomy was performed in the four cases with atrophic testes. The study concluded that laparoscopy is a reliable diagnostic tool for non-palpable testis and the procedure of one stage laparoscopic orchiopexy is safe and effective in treating such cases

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to evaluate the different modalities in the treatment of symptomatic urethral stricture after repair of hypospadias depending upon clinical picture and uroflowmetry. A total of 480 boys aged 12-72 months [mean 36 months] underwent surgical correction of hypospadias were included in this study. Symptomatic stricture rate was 6.25%, the presenting symptoms of urethral stricture was difficulty voiding [26.6%], weak stream [33.3%], fistula [10%], dysuria [10%], incidental [difficult catheterization] [6.6%], spraying [10%] and retention [3.3%]. 22 of 30 patients underwent initial attempts of urethral dilation, 14 patients were symptom free after dilation and eight patients required open urethroplasty. The study recommended routine uroflowmetry to monitor the functional status of the urethra after complex hypospadias repairs, so that strictures can be diagnosed at the earliest possible stage

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to increase the physicians' awareness of parasitic appendicitis by investigation to give proper management to the parasitic infestation and to avoid morbidity and mortality of this infestation. Between January 1997 and January 2000, 230 children with clinically diagnosed acute appendicitis and 50 children with clinically diagnosed recurrent appendicitis [mean age 8 years, range 6-14] were admitted to El-Hussein and Sayed Galal Hospitals for appendectomy. All patients received specific treatment for the parasitic infestation they had and were followed clinically and by urine or stool until they were free. The results have demonstrated that the parasitic infestation in pediatric age group has a risk factor in the pathogenesis of acute or recurrent appendicitis. So, this study strongly recommended the histopathological study for the removed appendix after either emergency or interval appendectomy as a critical component of the complete management of this entity
